Die CD „A Fleeting Light“ erscheint in einem 4-Panel-Digisleeve mit einem surrealen Gemälde. Dieses wunderschöne Instrumentalalbum ist Ton Scherpenzeels 5. Soloalbum.
Ton Scherpenzeel ist vor allem für seine 48-jährige Karriere als Komponist, Texter, Keyboarder und Gründungsmitglied der weltweit bekannten Prog-Rock-Band Kayak bekannt. Er ist auch für seine Zeit als Keyboarder bei den Prog-Rock-Bands Camel (UK) und Earth and Fire (NL) bekannt. Neben seiner Band und seiner umfangreichen Solokarriere ist Ton als Komponist und Produzent zahlreicher Musicalproduktionen in der Theater- und Filmszene bekannt.
Die CD enthält fünf Titel. Der Titel „Suite” ist eine 37-minütige Suite; die übrigen vier Stücke bringen die Gesamtlaufzeit auf etwa 48 Minuten.
Die Aufnahme enthält ausschließlich Soloklavier — keine Overdubs, Gesang, Gitarre, Bass oder Schlagzeug. Zwei Titel („A Fleeting Light” und „Chasing the Wind”) sind vollständig improvisiert, die übrigen drei sind neue, reduzierte Versionen zuvor veröffentlichter Kayak-Instrumentals. Das Album präsentiert Komposition und Improvisation als verwandte Ansätze zur Materialentwicklung. Die Musik ist für konzentriertes, sitzendes Hören mit geschlossenen Augen gedacht, um eine immersive, imaginierte Landschaft zu fördern.

Ton Scherpenzeel is most known for his 48 year career as composer, lyricist, keyboardist and a founding member of the world renowned prog rock band, Kayak. He is also known for his years as keyboardist for prog rock band Camel (UK) and Earth and Fire (NL). In addition to his band and extensive solo career, Ton is known as an avid composer and musician in the theater and film scene as composer and producer of multiple musical productions.
The CD contains five tracks. The title track is a 37 minute suite; the remaining four pieces bring the total runtime to about 48 minutes.
The recording features solo piano only — no overdubs, vocals, guitar, bass, or drums. Two tracks (“A Fleeting Light” and “Chasing the Wind”) are entirely improvised; the remaining three are new, stripped-down versions of previously released Kayak instrumentals. The album presents composing and improvising as related approaches to material development. The music is intended for focused, seated listening with eyes closed to encourage an immersive, imagined landscape.
