Die fünf Mitstreiter von Huis sind Labelkollegen der Neoprogger Mystery. Deren Mastermind, Michel St-Père, spielt hier Gitarre. Aber nicht nur deshalb erinnert das Quintett aus dem kanadischen Quebec an Mystery. Die gesamte Anlage ihres sinfonischen Prog ist ähnlich. Allerdings sind die Keyboards bei Huis omnipräsenter: Hammond, Moog und Mellotron sorgen für viel Abwechslung und ebenso spannende wie herrlich verträumte Momente auf ihrem Debütalbum, ohne dass dabei nun gänzlich Neues entstehen würde. Aber das muss es auch gar nicht. Ungewöhnliche Takte, krasse Tempo- und Taktwechsel sind zwar jede Menge vorhanden, treiben aber nur die Story voran, sind also als Gefrickel nicht wahrnehmbar und vollkommen ins sinfonische Gewand dieser Musik integriert. Besonders ist, dass „Despite Guardian Angels“ drei epische Instrumentals enthält, die von melodiösen E-Gitarren und Tasteninstrumenten getragen werden. Die elf Tracks bleiben nicht sofort haften, offenbaren aber mit jedem Hördurchgang interessante Details, sodass ein längerer Genuss dieser Platte durchaus möglich ist. (Eclipsed)
