Vor vier Jahren brachte die polnische Progressive-Metal-Band Animate ihr hervorragendes Debüt Infinite Imaginations heraus. Jetzt sind sie endlich wieder da, aber mit einem neuen Konzept. Auf ihrem zweiten Album Laudanum sind sie als Trio mit allen Instrumenten zu hören. Ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, dass ein Fan von Dream Theater - oder des progressiven Metal-Genres im Allgemeinen - von diesem Album nicht völlig begeistert ist. Die Keyboards treten hier eher in den Hintergrund, aber sie ergänzen die krachenden Gitarrenriffs und -soli sehr gut. Gitarrist Marcin Trela lässt seinen inneren Petrucci durch und durch spielen. Dieses Album macht verdammt viel Spaß.
