Australien-Import: Limitierte Erstauflage - 200 Stück sind von der Band signiert!

Die australische Cinematic Progressive Rock Band Anubis ist zurück - und feiert ihr zwanzigjähriges Jubiläum mit dem neuen Konzeptalbum "The Unforgivable".

Mit "The Unforgivable" greift die Band das Format des erzählerischen Konzeptalbums wieder auf, das bereits die bahnbrechenden Alben "230503" (2009) und "A Tower of Silence" (2011) auszeichnete. Dazu Keyboarder David Eaton: "Während der COVID-Sperrungen waren Rob und ich mit etwa zwei Stunden multitracked Jams auf uns allein gestellt. In dieser Zeit waren wir damit beschäftigt, die ersten beiden Anubis-Platten für Remixe zu überarbeiten, schauten viel zu viele Netflix-Dokumentationen über seltsame religiöse Kulte und hatten all diese großartigen Musikfragmente, die wir versuchsweise zu diesem langen 45-minütigen Stück zusammenfügten. Es schien einfach logisch, dass all diese Dinge zusammenpassen würden - und als wir nach dem Lockdown zusammenkamen, zeigten wir der Band, was wir gemacht hatten, und alle waren sofort von der Idee begeistert.

Das Album erzählt die Geschichte eines jungen Mannes, der einer religiösen Sekte im Mittleren Westen der USA, der Legion of Angels, verfällt - und ihr entkommt. Eine düstere, stimmungsvolle Geschichte, die auf zwei Vinylseiten erzählt wird - mit einem epischen Stück, das in zehn Teile aufgeteilt ist.

Es erinnert mich vor allem an das Album 230503. Viel Atmosphäre und eine sehr klare, lineare Geschichte. Aber es schafft es, diese Geschichte in fast der Hälfte der Zeit zu erzählen! Wie jedes Album, das wir gemacht haben, stellt es einen Fortschritt in unserer Fähigkeit dar, Platten zu machen und ist eher eine Reaktion auf unser letztes Album, das viel zugänglicher war. Dieses Album braucht wirklich Zeit, um sich zu entfalten - aber dafür ist es umso lohnender.

Australian Cinematic Progressive Rock band Anubis are back - and celebrate their twentieth anniversary with new concept album ‘The Unforgivable’.

‘The Unforgivable’ finds the band revisiting the narrative-based concept album format that characterised the seminal ‘230503’ (2009) and ‘A Tower of Silence’ (2011). Says keyboardist David Eaton ‘during the COVID lockdowns, Rob and I were left marooned with about two hours of multitracked jams. During that period, we were busy reworking the first two Anubis records for remixing, watching way too many Netflix documentaries about weird religious cults and had all of these great fragments of music which we tentatively slotted together into this long 45 minute piece. It just seemed logical that all of these things would line up - and when we got together after lockdown, we showed the band what we’d done and everyone got behind the idea immediately.’

The album tells the story of a young man’s falling into - and escape from a religious cult in the American midwest known as The Legion of Angels. A dark, moody story that is told over the course of the two sides of vinyl - with one epic length piece split into ten parts.

‘It calls to mind the 230503 album, especially, to me. Lots of atmosphere, and a very clear, linear story. But it manages to tell this story in almost half the time! Like every album we’ve done, it represents a progression in our ability to make records and is rather a reaction to our last album which was much more accessible. This one really needs the time to reveal itself - but is all the more rewarding for it.’
