Ghost Of The Machine haben ihre Fans mit ihrem unglaublichen, preisgekrönten Debütalbum Scissorgames aus dem Jahr 2022 umgehauen und wurden in der Leserumfrage des PROG Magazins zu einer der besten ungesignten Bands des Jahres gewählt. Empires Must Fall behält Ghost Of The Machines Markenzeichen, die hymnischen Hooks und die kraftvolle Melodic-Rock-Produktion (wieder mit freundlicher Genehmigung von Bob Cooper), bei und erforscht darüber hinaus „dichtere und dunklere Arrangements, die“ - so verspricht Bramald - „den ‚Prog‘-Juckreiz ankratzen, während sie eine sorgfältige Balance zwischen kürzeren, zugänglicheren Songs und den epischen Stücken, für die wir bekannt sind, finden.“ 

Das neue Album erzählt eine Fortsetzung der Geschichte, die mit der ‘Scissors‘-Suite auf dem vorherigen Album begann. Bramald fügt hinzu: „Unsere erste Platte endete damit, dass der tyrannische Puppenkönig von seinem letzten Opfer besiegt wurde... sie erschlug ihn mit einer Schere! Also fragten wir uns, was die Folgen dieses gewalttätigen, aber befreienden letzten Aktes sein würden. Wir begannen mit einer einfachen Frage, auf die es nur komplexe Antworten gibt: Was ist wahre Gerechtigkeit? Gelingt es der Jägerin des Puppenkönigs - der frisch gekrönten Kaiserin des Lichts -, eine wohlwollende Herrscherin zu sein? Kann sie all das Unrecht wiedergutmachen, das sie selbst erlitten hat? Und was wird nötig sein, um den Kreislauf von Gewalt und Zwang endlich zu durchbrechen?“

Ghost Of The Machine blew fans away with their incredible, award winning 2022 debut LP Scissorgames and went on to be named one of the best unsigned bands in that year’s PROG Magazine readers poll. Comprised of Charlie Bramald (Age of Distraction, ex-Nova Cascade) and former This Winter Machine members Graham Garbett, Mark Hagan, Stuart McAuley, Andy Milner, and Scott Owens, the sextet’s captivating and refined balance of emotional songwriting and vibrant instrumentation quickly won over many fans.
Empires Must Fall maintains Ghost Of The Machine’s trademark anthemic hooks and beefy melodic rock production (once again courtesy of Bob Cooper) and it also explores “denser and darker arrangements that”—Bramald promises—will “scratch that ‘prog’ itch while striking a careful balance between shorter, more accessible songs and those epic-length pieces that we’re known for.”
The new album tells a continuation of the story that started with the ‘Scissors’ suite on the previous album. Bramald adds, “Our first record concluded with the tyrannical Puppet King being vanquished by his final victim… she slew him with a pair of scissors! So, we wondered what the consequences of that violent but liberating final act would be. We started with a simple question which has only complex answers: what is true justice? Is the Puppet King’s slayer—the newly crowned Empress of the Light—succeeding at being a benevolent ruler? Can she right all the wrongs that she herself had suffered? And what will it take to finally break the cycle of violence and coercion?”
